Okay, we’re all mature adults here so if you’re confident you can do so without giggling like school children, let’s take a few minutes to talk about sex, shall we? Sex is the most normal activity in the entire world, literally in fact, as without sex, none of us would be here. Not only is sex essential for reproduction, but as it turns out, it feels pretty darn good too, and it provides a number of health benefits for us in the process. Despite this however, there are still heaps upon heaps of people that seemingly cannot talk about sex, without turning red in the face and reverting back to their childhoods, when they received their first sex-ed class in school. Sex is essential for life to continue, it provides benefits for the human body, including being able to boost immunity and improve psychological health and well-being, plus, as mentioned, it is enjoyable and it feels great. If your sex life is on the rocks however, or if it is virtually non-existent and you wish to change that, the good news is that you can do so by consuming a number of supplements and foods, with not a single blue pill in sight. Here’s a look at 7 foods and supplements designed to provide you with better sexual health.

Ashwaganda Root

Up first we have a supplement that is designed primarily for women. Yes, you read that right, women can also improve their sexual health. If you were to consult the Kama Sutra, you will see Ashwaganda Root being referred to as potent igniter of desire and passion, and rightfully so. In women, this herbal supplement has been found to help enhance the libido, and to increase pleasure senses during sexual intercourse and sexual activity. The primary reason for this is that it has been found to enhance circulation and blood flow, helping to increase blood flow to the clitoris and other sexual organs in the body. The more blood they receive, the more enjoyable the activity will become.

Avocados

Avocados, sometimes known as nature’s butter, are fruits that not only taste great, but also happen to be very healthy, especially where your sex life is concerned. The ancient Aztecs for example, used to refer to Avocados as, well, testicles, due to their shape. As well as having a slightly questionable and provocative appearance however, in terms of aphrodisiacal benefits, it is their natural fat content that makes these fruits such winners. The healthy fats have been proven to strengthen the heart and improve arterial health. This means that more blood can be produced by, and pumped from, the heart, and more can be carried around the body in the arteries. The better your circulation, generally the better your sexual health as we become aroused when blood reaches our genitals, so the more blood we receive, obviously the more aroused we become. For men, this is also beneficial because it allows more oxygenated blood to reach the erectile tissue, which leads to bigger and stronger erections. Studies have found that men suffering with poor circulation, or various heart-related health issues, are much more likely to suffer with erectile dysfunction, or a reduced libido.

Dark chocolate

Chocolate and Valentine’s Day are synonymous with one another, and as it turns out, for very good reason. You see, chocolate, especially dark chocolate, has been found to increase dopamine and serotonin productions as it is naturally rich in Phenylethylamine, which is a chemical compound that serves as a precursor for the production of these feel-good chemicals, that causes feelings of happiness and euphoria. What’s more, the antioxidants found in dark chocolate also help to assist with circulation as they provide anti-inflammatory benefits, so the better your circulation, the more aroused you will become. Put simply, chocolate puts you in a happy and amorous mood, plus it helps to assist with blood flow, creating the perfect recipe for a great night under the sheets.

Zinc

Zinc is renowned for its many health properties, especially where sexual health and well-being is concerned. Zinc helps to promote blood flow and circulation to the sexual organs, plus it plays a key role in the production of testosterone. This male sexual hormone is responsible for sex drive and sperm mobility and production, so the more testosterone you are able to produce, the more aroused you will feel. For couples trying for a baby, zinc supplementation is very beneficial as, because it increases sperm production and mobility, sperm cells become healthier, more mobile, and there are more of them, so you will be more likely to conceive.

Oysters

People often refer to oysters as natural aphrodisiacs, and as it turns out, for very good reasons. One of the main reasons for this, is because oysters are a naturally rich source of zinc, which we now know is very useful for people’s sex drives. Oysters contain more zinc than any other food currently available, making them great libido enhancing foods, especially in men. What’s more, as they increase testosterone productions, they are very anabolic foods as well, and they are low in calories, making them useful for bodybuilders and athletes. Ideally you should aim for no more than 40mg of zinc per day, which you will get from around 4 medium sized oysters.

Maca root

Another supplement for the ladies is Maca root. Maca root contains naturally high levels of iodine, which has been found to support hormonal balances in women. Once again, zinc also comes into the mix as it is found within Maca root, where it helps to promote the production of sexual hormones within women. This not only helps to enhance feelings of desire, it also assists with feelings of sexual satisfaction and enjoyment.

L-Arginine

This amino acid is beneficial for sexual health and well-being because it has been found to enhance natural Nitric Oxide productions within the body. Nitric Oxide, or NO, for short, is essential for circulation as it functions as a vasodilator, by allowing the blood vessels to relax and widen. This allows for more oxygenated blood to be carried through them and around the body, including to the sexual organs, so again, sex drives in men and women will benefit hugely from this particular supplement.
