Soy Lecithin vs. Sunflower Lecithin

Soy Lecithin Vs Sunflower Lecithin

CanadianProtein.com is very proud to announce that we are now using sunflower lecithin for all our New Zealand Whey Protein and New Zealand Whey Protein Isolate

Benefits of Sunflower Lecithin

What are the advantages of using a product with sunflower lecithin instead of soy lecithin? Sunflower lecithin is extracted without harsh chemical solvents like hexane and acetone, it is processed using a cold pressing system similar to what is used to obtain things like olive oil, sunflower lecithin is the only kind of lecithin that can be obtained raw and chemical-free. It is also rich in phosphatidylcholine (choline) and essential fatty acids like phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylethanolamine. Disadvantages of Soy Lecithin

Although soy lecithin is an effective way to allow protein to be water soluble, soy lecithin comes with some issues as of late. In the beginning, soy was a great protein source for many and a great alternation to whey protein. However, as time went on, soy allergies began to develop, worries of increased estrogen levels, using chemicals to produce soy lecithin, and worries of soy being genetically engineered. Although, these claims may be a little drastic with regards to the soy lecithin content in protein powers since the inclusion rate is generally approximately 0.5% – 1% resulting in minimal levels, there are still valid concerns with it.

With that said, if you are concerned with soy lecithin in whey protein powders you may want to choose a whey protein powder that is soy-free, such as Canadian Protein New Zealand Whey SOY-FREE.
